Traveling with your watches: our tips for a worry-free trip
Share
Traveling with a beautiful watch is a pleasure. Finding it scratched or stopped upon arrival is much less so. A few precautions are enough.
Choosing the right watches
An everyday watch, robust and legible, and a dressier watch for dinners: two pieces cover most trips. For the beach or water activities, opt for a watch with an appropriate water resistance rating.
Keep them in your carry-on
Never entrust your watches to checked luggage: they are subjected to shocks and handling there, and luggage can get lost. Keep them with you, in your carry-on bag.
Protect them in a case
A watch slipped into a bag pocket rubs against keys, cables, and zippers. A padded watch case isolates each piece and fits in any luggage. Our cases hold one to three watches.
Changing time zones
On a GMT watch, simply set the local hour hand and keep your home time on the 24-hour hand. On a classic date watch, advance or set back the time while avoiding the 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. window if you also need to adjust the date.
While there
- Store your watches in their case or the room safe rather than on a bedside table.
- Rinse a water-resistant watch with fresh water after swimming in the sea.
- Avoid leaving a watch in direct sunlight on a beach towel.
Upon return
If you leave your other automatic watches at home during the trip, a watch winder keeps them running: they will be set to the correct time upon your return.
